The fortified settlement of Stari Ulcinj on the Island of Stari Ulcinj was mentioned in 1376 as "in mari Dulcinii veteris" and later in the 17th century on Venetian maps as Dolcigno Vecchio. Stari Ulcinj was propably fortified during the Medieval period, although it was already settled earlier.
