The Petralba fortress was built in the 14th or 15th century and was conquered by Skanderbeg in 1443. The fortress guarded the road from Durres to Prizren and was an important part of Skanderbegs defensive system of Albania. After the death of Skanderbeg the fortress fell into ruin and only the village of Guri Bardhë was mentioned as successor settlement to the fortresses lower town.
