Vinkovci, Church of St. Elijah | Place | The Church of St Elijah in Vinkovci was built around the year 1100 and is the only Pre-Romanesque monument in inland Croatia. The tombs of the Church contained coins of King Ladislaus I of Hungary (reigned 1077-1095). Its a single nave gothic edifice with a polygonal apse. Around the Church is a cemetery, which was in use from the 11th to the second half of the 18th century, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds. |
