Skopje, Lower Town, Church of the Birth of the Mother of God | Place | The Church of the Birth of the Mother of God was built in the year 1835 as Metropolitan Church of the Metropolitan of Skopje (three-naved with a porch in the North, West and South; Iconostasis from 1838) and stood in the tradition of the medieval Church of the Mother of God of "the Three Hands". It was located on the left (northern) shore of the river Vardar between the Opera of the city of Skopje and the building of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU). The church was burnt down in the year 1944 and rebuilt according to the original plans from 2004 until 2008. This church was documented by Mihailo Popović during his survey in Skopje from 13 June 2016 until 30 June 2016. |
