He, his house in the lower town of Melnik and his vineyard were confirmed by the chrysobull charter of the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II from August 1323 as inherited property of Ioannes Sguros Orestes (ἔτι δὲ καὶ εἰς τὸ ἐμπόριον τοῦ εἰρημένου κάστρου Μελενίκου ἕτερον ὀσπήτιον καὶ ἄνθρωπον γονικὸν αὐτοῦ τὸν Ἰωάννην εὑρισκόμενον εἰς τὸ τοιοῦτον ὀσπήτιον, ἔχοντα δὲ καὶ ἀμπέλιον).
